How to become a befriender
If you are a caring person who lives in (or near) County Durham and can spare 3 hours every week you could consider becoming a befriender. You’ll need to have your own transport and be willing to use it if required to help the person befriended to take part in the activities of their choice. Befrienders also need to be willing to submit their personal details for an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and to undertake training in Learning Disabilities, Protection of Vulnerable Adults, Health & Safety and Emergency First Aid.
Successful applicants are matched with a client to whom they will become a regular companion.
